2. Traditional vs Modern Culinary Practices in India

Answer:
Traditional cooking methods in India involved the use of earthen or bronze utensils, grinding grains with stone grinders (chakki), and cooking over firewood stoves (chulha).

Modern cooking uses gas stoves, microwaves, mixers, and pressure cookers. These methods are faster, more convenient, and efficient due to technological advancements in transport and communication.

3. “All tasty foods are not healthy, and all healthy foods are not always tasty.” Discuss

Answer:
Many tasty foods such as fried chips, sweets, and sugary drinks are unhealthy because they contain excess fat and sugar with low nutritional value.

On the other hand, nutritious foods like green vegetables, fruits, and millets may not always taste very appealing but are essential for maintaining good health.

4. Which food would you prefer and why?

(i) Canned fruit juice
(ii) Fresh fruit juice
(iii) Fresh fruit

Answer:
Fresh fruit is the best choice because it contains natural vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber without added sugar or preservatives. Fresh juice is also healthy but lacks fiber, while canned juice often contains added sugar and preservatives.

5. Why does sugar not turn blue-black with iodine solution?

Answer:
Iodine solution is used to test the presence of starch. Sugar is a simple carbohydrate and does not contain starch, so it does not change the color of iodine solution.

6. Why are millets considered healthy? Can they alone meet all nutritional needs?

Answer:
Millets are rich in fiber, protein, vitamins, and minerals such as calcium and iron. They are also environmentally friendly as they require less water and fewer pesticides.

However, millets alone cannot fulfill all nutritional requirements. A balanced diet that includes cereals, pulses, fruits, vegetables, and dairy is necessary for overall health.
